Inside or Outside Mount?
Inside mount
Inside Mount Installation
The shade sits inside the window frame. Make sure the frame is deep enough for your valance (2.01" standard, 2.56" square, 2.95" fabric insert); if it is shallower, the valance will stick out slightly beyond the frame.

Fix the brackets
Hold a bracket against the top of the window frame near each end and mark the screw holes with a pencil. Drill 0.2" (6 mm) holes, tap in the wall anchors (f) and screw the brackets (b) firmly into place.
- Use a level so the brackets line up.
- Wider shades come with extra brackets: space them evenly between the two ends.

Hook & snap in the shade
Hook the front of the shade onto the brackets first, then push the back upward until it clicks into place. Place a level on the valance (V) to check the shade hangs straight.
- Tip: have your helper support one end while you lock in the other.

Test with the remote
Press up and down on the remote to check the shade runs smoothly. It is pre-programmed, so no setup is needed. Stick the remote holder to the wall with the 3M adhesive, or fix it with screws.
Outside mount
Outside Mount Installation
The shade is fixed to the wall or trim above the window, so frame depth does not matter. For best light control, your shade should be 3–6" wider and taller than the window opening.

Mark the bracket positions
Mark a bracket position above each top corner of the window frame: about 5" in from the outer edge of the frame, and at least 3.2" (81 mm) above the top of the frame so the shade and valance clear it. Use a level so the marks line up.

Fix the brackets
Drill 0.2" (6 mm) holes at the marks, tap in the wall anchors (f) and screw the brackets (b) firmly to the wall.

Hook & snap in the shade
Hook the front of the shade onto the brackets first, then push the back upward until it clicks into place.
- Tip: have your helper support one end while you lock in the other.

Questions
Installation FAQ
Should I choose an inside mount or an outside mount?
An inside mount sits within the window frame for a clean, built-in look. It needs a frame depth of 2.01" with the standard valance, 2.56" with the square valance or 2.95" with the fabric insert valance. An outside mount is fixed to the wall or trim above the window and covers more of the opening, which reduces light around the edges. For the darkest room with Nora, choose an outside mount or add light blockers.
How do I measure my window?
For an inside mount, measure the exact width and height inside the frame and order those measurements. We deduct 1/4" in total from the width so the shade fits inside the frame; the height is made as ordered. For an outside mount, add 3–6" to the window width and height, depending on your space and how much light you want to block. See our measuring guide for step-by-step instructions.
Can I install the shades myself?
Yes. The shades are designed for DIY installation and come with mounting brackets and screws. Confirm the supplied hardware suits your mounting surface; drywall, tile or metal frames may need different anchors.
My window frame is too shallow for an inside mount. What should I do?
If the frame is shallower than the depth your valance needs, the valance may stick out beyond the frame. You can still mount it that way, or choose an outside mount, which does not depend on frame depth and gives wider coverage.
Do I need to program the motor after installing?
No. Every shade is programmed before shipment, so once it is mounted you can use it straight away with the 16-channel remote (sold separately). If you chose a smart motor, see Motor Setup & Pairing to connect it to the app or your smart home system.
Do I need a remote to operate my shade for the first time?
Yes. You need a compatible Deconovo 16-channel remote to operate your shade for the first time after installing, before any app or voice control is set up, and to put a smart motor into pairing mode. The remote is sold separately and is not included with the shade. Add it to your order when you configure your shade, or select None if you already own one and pair it with your new shade (see Motor Setup & Pairing). One remote controls up to 16 shades or groups.
What tools do I need, and can one person install it?
You need a pencil, screwdriver, level, tape measure and a power drill with a 0.2" (6 mm) bit. We recommend two people: one to hold the shade and one to fix it.
How does the shade attach to the brackets?
Hook the front edge of the shade onto the brackets first, then push the back upward until it clicks into place.
Which side should the motor be on?
You select the motor side (left or right) when ordering. Choose the side where you can most easily reach the charging port.
What is the difference between standard roll and reverse roll?
With a standard roll, the fabric comes off the back of the roller, close to the window. With a reverse roll, the fabric comes off the front of the roller, which hides the roller tube and can help the fabric clear window handles or cranks.

Questions
Motor FAQ
Do I need a remote?
Yes, you need at least one compatible remote for first-time setup, whichever motor you choose. The 16-channel remote is sold separately: add it to your order, or select None if you already own one. A single remote controls up to 16 shades or groups, and it keeps working without a phone, app or internet connection.
Do I need a hub?
Standard and Bluetooth motors don't need a hub. Standard + Hub and Zigbee use a Deconovo hub. Direct-Connect Zigbee pairs with a compatible Amazon Echo or SmartThings hub instead, and Matter over Thread uses a Matter-over-Thread hub such as HomePod mini, Nest Hub (2nd gen) or Echo (4th gen).
How far does the Bluetooth motor reach?
App control works within about 30 m (98 ft) of the shade in open space; walls and other obstacles shorten the range. Out of range the app disconnects, but the remote keeps working.
Which motor works with Alexa without a Deconovo hub?
Choose Direct-Connect Zigbee if your Echo has a built-in Zigbee hub, or Matter over Thread if you have an Echo (4th gen) or Echo Show 8 (3rd gen).
Which motor should I choose for Apple Home?
Matter over Thread. You'll need a HomePod mini, HomePod (2nd gen) or Apple TV 4K as your home hub.
Is there any difference in battery or noise between motors?
No. All six are the same rechargeable motor with a built-in lithium battery. A full charge takes about 4 hours over USB. Only the way you control the shade is different.

Charging
How to Charge Your Shade
All six motors use the same built-in rechargeable lithium battery. Charge it through the USB-C port on the motor head, with the shade still on the wall.

Find the port
The charging port is on the motor head, at the end of the roller on the motor side you chose when ordering.
Plug in
Connect the included USB charging extension cable to the port, then plug the other end into a USB power source or a power bank.
Charge & unplug
A full charge takes about 4 hours. Unplug the cable once the battery is full, and tuck it away.
First use: fully charge the motor before setup, and make sure the power switch on the motor head is set to “I”.
Battery
Battery Life & Care
4–6 months per charge
With typical daily use, one charge lasts about 4–6 months, or 600–900 up and down runs. Larger shades and more frequent use shorten the time between charges.
Signs of a low battery
If the shade moves more slowly than usual or stops responding to the remote or app, charge it first before trying anything else.
Not using the shade for a while?
Charge the battery for at least 6 hours every 6 months to protect it and extend its life.
Power switch
The switch on the motor head turns the motor on and off. Slide it to “I” to turn the motor on.
Optional add-on
Solar Panel
Add the solar panel to keep the battery topped up with daylight, so you rarely need to charge with a cable. It works with all six motors.
- Panel size16.93" × 2.17"
- Cable86.61" (2.2 m), USB-C plug
- MountingAdhesive backing, no drilling
How to install
- Mount the panel on the inside of the window glass, facing outside, near a top corner on the motor side. The cable then reaches the charging port easily, and the shade hides the panel when it is lowered.
- Clean and dry the glass, peel off the adhesive backing and press the panel firmly in place for about 30 seconds.
- Plug the USB-C connector into the charging port on the motor head and tidy the cable along the frame.
Pick a window that gets direct sun for several hours a day. Heavily tinted or Low-E glass, deep eaves, trees or nearby buildings cut the light the panel gets, and in winter you may still need to charge with the USB cable from time to time.
Warranty

Questions
Charging FAQ
How often do I need to charge the shade?
About every 4–6 months with typical daily use. Large shades and frequent use need charging more often; with the solar panel you may rarely need to charge by cable.
How long does a full charge take?
About 4 hours. Unplug the cable once the battery is full.
Do I need to take the shade down to charge it?
No. The included USB charging extension cable lets you reach the charging port on the motor head while the shade stays installed.
Can I charge it with a power bank?
Yes. Any USB power source works, including a power bank, which is handy for shades far from an outlet.
My shade stopped working. What should I check?
Make sure the power switch on the motor head is set to “I”, then charge the battery for about 4 hours and try again with the remote. If it still doesn’t respond, contact us.
Does the solar panel replace charging?
In most sunny windows it keeps the battery topped up, so cable charging is rarely needed. In low light, charge with the USB cable when the shade starts to slow down.
